Before Hotspot Shield can be uninstalled, make sure that the application is not running.
If you see this icon, click on the shield to open up Hotspot Shield.
Then click on the gear icon in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Select "Quit"
Now launch Finder and open up the Application folder.
Right mouse click on Hotspot Shield and select "Move to Trash"
Troubleshooting
If you are getting the error 'The item "Hotspot Shield" can't be moved to the Trash because it's open.' follow the directions above. If that does not resolve the problem, open up Activity Monitor.
To launch Activity Monitor, click on Launchpad.
Enter Activity Monitor in the search bar and launch the application.
Enter Hotspot Shield in the search bar for Activity Monitor.
Click on the Stop button (Circle with an X in it) in the upper left-hand corner of the window and select quit.
Now launch Finder and open up the Application folder.
Right mouse click on Hotspot Shield and select "Move to Trash"
