Issue: I can’t connect to Hotspot Shield on my Android device. I click CONNECT, and it just spins. Or, it connects briefly and then disconnects.
How to fix connection issues on an Android
If you notice the connection being unstable on your Android device when connected to our VPN, first, please make sure you are running the latest version for Android in the Google Play Store.
If you can’t connect to the VPN (i.e. you can open the Hotspot Shield Android app and it seems to run properly, but will not connect to any country), follow the steps below. After each step, check to see if you can connect:
Step 1: Check your internet connection
- Close the Hotspot Shield app.
- Then, open your browser and try browsing a website to confirm that your internet connection is working properly while not connected to Hotspot Shield.
If you can’t browse the internet when the VPN is off, turn off and back on your mobile data or Wi-Fi. If that doesn’t help, you may need to check your network settings or contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Step 2: Relaunch Hotspot Shield
If you have Hotspot Shield open, but can’t connect to any virtual location, quit the Hotspot Shield app and then relaunch it.
Step 3: Change VPN protocol
Changing the VPN protocol in the app may help resolve the connection issue. You can try different VPN protocols to determine which one works best for your connection.
Tap the “Protocol” option in the bottom-right corner of the app, then switch to a different protocol such as WireGuard or Hydra.
Step 4: Change Virtual Location
If you are still not able to connect, follow these steps:
- Tap the bottom-left corner of the app (“Virtual Location”).
- Then, select a different virtual location from the list of available countries and cities.
