Hotspot Shield’s new Multi-hop feature takes your online privacy to the next level by routing your traffic through two VPN servers instead of just one. It is a feature that is currently unique to Android.
What is Multi-hop?
Also known as Double VPN, Multi-hop is an advanced security feature that encrypts your connection twice—once at each server—and passes your traffic through two separate VPN locations before it reaches its destination.
With a standard VPN connection, your internet traffic is encrypted and sent through a single VPN server. This is already highly secure, but your ISP (or anyone monitoring your connection) can still see which VPN server you’re connected to.
Multi-hop changes that. With this feature, outside observers can only see the first VPN server in your route—never the second one where your traffic actually exits. This extra “hop” makes it far more difficult for anyone to trace your activity, link it back to you, or compromise your data.
Benefits of Multi-hop:
Extra privacy: Two servers mean two layers of encryption.
Harder to track: Observers can’t see your final VPN exit point.
Greater security: Added protection against surveillance and data interception.
With Multi-hop, your online footprint becomes even harder to follow—giving you peace of mind that your connection is as private and secure as possible.
Connecting with Multi-hop on Android
To connect with Multi-hop on Android, first click on the server selection at the bottom of the screen
Next, select MULTI-HOP
You'll get two selections here, one for the Entry server and one for the Exit server.
Entry Server – The first server your traffic goes through.
Exit Server – The second server, where your traffic leaves the VPN and reaches the internet.
The IP address websites see will be based on the Exit Server you choose.
As an example,If you select the United Kingdom as your Entry Server and the United States as your Exit Server, your traffic will first be routed through the UK, then securely sent from the UK to the US before reaching its final destination.
Once you have selected the Entry and Exit servers, click on Connect.
