What is a Profile?

Configuration Profiles are XML files that contain settings to manage Wi-Fi, email accounts, passcode options, and many other functions of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Mac devices. To use them, you must have either iOS 4 or later or OS X 10.7 or later.

Profiles are used to customize various configurations to provide access to certain services/features of Hotspot Shield.

Hotspot Shield Profiles are categorized with two criteria:

1. Regime/Mode of operating:

   - Manual

In the "Manual" mode, you must turn the VPN On in your device settings each time you need Hotspot Shield, including when your phone goes to sleep or when you switch from 3G/4G/LTE to Wi-Fi.

   - Always On

In the "Always On" mode, every request from an internet-connected app or web browser automatically turns the VPN On. This ensures that you have privacy, security and data savings at all times.

2. Virtual Location:

   - US

   - UK

   - Japan

When you install a Hotspot Shield Profile on your iOS device, depending on your choice of criteria, one of the following configurations will be picked:

USA - Always ON

USA - Manual

UK - Always ON

UK - Manual

Japan - Always ON

Japan - Manual

When Hotspot Shield is installed on your iOS device, the USA - Always On Profile is the default setting.
