System error: Something went wrong

In case you are getting the "Something went wrong" error message when trying to connect to Hotspot Shield, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together)
  2. Click on the Details Tab
  3. In the “name” column, locate “cmw_srv.exe”
  4. Click “End task” at the bottom right corner of the screen
  5. You will see a confirmation message pop up
  6. Click “End process,” which will reestablish your connection
  7. Your app should now be connected

 

If the "cmw_srv.exe" process does not show in the task manager, please follow these steps:

  1. Open the Task Manager (press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together)
  2. Before anything, make sure Hotspot Shield is fully closed, go to the "Processes" tab, find Hotspot Shield and right-click, select "End task" confirm your selection. (If already closed, Hotspot won't be there)
  3. Go to the "Services" tab, sort alphabetically by clicking on the "Name" title and search for service "hshld". Right-click on it and select Stop, then right-click on it again and select "Start"
  4. Make sure the service "Status" says "Running"
  5. Launch and connect Hotspot Shield
