Hotspot Shield VPN system error message: “Something went wrong”

*Note: These instructions only apply if you downloaded Hotspot Shield from These instructions do not apply to the version of Hotspot Shield VPN downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

If you’re trying to connect to Hotspot Shield and receive this error message: “Something went wrong,” follow the steps below: 

Step 1: Start Hotspot Shield manually

  1. Open “Services”
  2. Find Hotspot Shield
  3. Right click and select “Start” Services_Properties.png

If Hotspot Shield is already in “Running” status, uninstall and then reinstall the app and try connecting againHotspot_Shield_Service.png
